We’ve put together answers to the most common questions about walking the Via Francigena. Browse the topics below and jump straight to the article that best matches what you want to know.
How long is the route, and how many days are your travel packages?
The Via Francigena North runs 1,000 km from the Great St. Bernard Pass to Rome. The route then continues with the Via Francigena South to Brindisi. For now, we offer the full route on foot up to Rome and the first part of the Via Francigena South, up to Terracina.
Most of our itineraries are divided into 8-10 day packages, but we also offer shorter 2-3 day trips and the complete route from the Great St. Bernard Pass to Rome. Upon request, we can also customize a package to include only the stages and duration you prefer.
Where do you sleep on the Via Francigena?
You’ll stay in B&Bs, 3-star hotels, and agriturismos in private rooms with en-suite bathrooms. No hostels or shared dormitories.
Is the price on the website the final price?
No, it’s an approximate price. The final cost can change depending on the season, included services, room type, and hotel availability.
You can create your quote online and send it to us. We’ll confirm the final price before you proceed with the booking.
Will I have to carry my backpack on the Via Francigena?
No, luggage transfer is included in most of our packages. You can walk with just a daypack.
Can I bring my dog on the Via Francigena?
Several stretches of the Via Francigena are dog-friendly, and many hotels are happy to host your dog, sometimes with a small daily supplement.
If you don’t see clear references in the trip details, contact us and we’ll confirm whether the route is suitable for your dog and whether any extra costs apply.
Can I bring children or teenagers on the Via Francigena?
Not every child is ready to walk several kilometers a day for several consecutive days. You know your child best, but we can help you choose the right stage based on their age, your family’s experience, and the type of trip you want to do.
