Day 1:    Arrival in Civita Castellana
Welcome to Civita Castellana! The village, the largest in the Agro Falisco territory, is rich in history and beauty to see and visit. In ancient times its name was Falerii Veteres and it was the capital of the Faliscan civilization. In the Renaissance it was a papal residence, among the most important pontiffs: Alexander VI Borgia and Julius II della Rovere. Civita Castellana is surrounded by archaeological sites and nature, a few kilometers from the Via Amerina and ancient Faleri Novi. The town is known worldwide for its ceramic production. After your arrival, in the afternoon, the first activity of the trip awaits you: Visit the Museum of Ceramics. The ceramic production sector has been the main socio-economic fabric of the Civita Castellana community since the 1800s. The museum documents Civitan ceramic activity from the late 1700s to the mature period of industrial production in the 1970s.
Day 2:    Walk Civita Castellana - Faleria - Calcata Vecchia, 18km
After breakfast, your route begins from Civita Castellana in the direction of Calcata Vecchia. The route runs along the Treja River, passing through forests and tuff sculptures. Continue inside the Fosso della Mola ravine to reach the first stop of the day: Faleria. The village stands on a spur of tuff, surrounded by the gorges carved by the Treja and Mola rivers. The village assumed considerable importance in the Middle Ages, thanks to Castel Paterno, the last fortress to defend the Pope. The castle was the scene of the death of Otto III, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. After a visit to the village, today's walk continues and ends in Calcata. Calcata is the smallest village in Agro Falisco and is an enchanted island in the green, where time seems to have stopped. The village rises above the Treja Valley Park, which houses within it the remains of the Faliscan city of Narce.
Day 3:    Loop Walk Calcata Vecchia, 6km
Today's route is a loop from Calcata Vecchia, passing through Narce, Monti Li Santi and the Treja Valley. Narce is rich in evidence of the Falisca civilization, immersed in the dense vegetation of the valley. Numerous tombs, roads carved into the red tuff, remains of buildings and temples evoke the arcane atmosphere of the ancient people of Latium. Continue to the Li Santi Mountains and the Cavone Li Santi Necropolis. The necropolis was used from the beginning of the 8th century B.C. until the 3rd century B.C. and has returned to us a great deal of artifacts on the Falisca burial culture. Shafts dug into the tuff, stone or wooden sarcophagi, and chamber tombs built during the last period of the necropolis were found. Go back up in a northerly direction to end the route at Calcata Vecchia.
Day 4:    Transfer to Nepi and walk to Corchiano via Falerii Novi, 19km
This morning you have a small transfer from Calcata to Nepi, where today's walk begins. Known in ancient times as Nepet, from the Etruscan Nepa, meaning water. That is why it is also called a city of water, surrounded by streams, springs and small cascades. According to some legends it was built 458 years before Rome. The town's landscape is characterized by the Rocca dei Borgia, for a short time, lived the daughter of Alexander VI: Lucrezia Borgia. From Nepi proceed north to Corchiano, passing through Falerii Novi. Falerii Novi, a unique archaeological site, represents the victory of the Roman army over Falisci. The ancient walls are still intact, with 50 turrets still standing; visible are the remains of the theater, dwellings and forum. A true open-air museum. The final stop is the suspended village of Corchiano.
Day 5:    Arrivederci Corchiano!
The trip and our services end after breakfast, unless you have booked an extra night in Corchiano or other destinations in Italy.
