Bio-Agriculture, gastronomy, and ancient culture Via Amerina

Bio-Agriculture, gastronomy, and ancient culture Via Amerina - 5 days

Bio-Agriculture, gastronomy, and ancient culture Via Amerina - 5 days

This tour takes you to one of those authentic, undiscovered areas of Italy you won't find in most guides: unique villages and unspoiled green forests, necropolis immersed in the woods and mysterious ruins, Roman bridges, Etruscan roads and natural wonders, make this area one of the first important architectures of Roman expansionism.

In ancient times it was called Ager Faliscus by the Romans, fenced by natural boundaries and singular geomorphological features. In this territory, until the 3rd century B.C., lived the Falisci; a population contemporary to the Etruscans and Latins.
The Tiber River marks the eastern boundary, while to the northwest the Cimini Mountains limit the area. To the south it ends at Monte Soratte and the Valle del Baccano, and to the west near Monterosi and Lake Bracciano.

This complete itinerary, will allow you to walk a section of the Via Amerina, visit the ancient Orte Sotterranea, historic castles and gardens, and enjoy a wine tasting in one of the area's wineries.

Day 5: Arrivederci Corchiano!

Day 1:    Arrive in Orte
Here you are in Orte. The centre of the Tiber Valley, situated on a high tuffaceous cliff, the latter appears to be surrounded to the north and east by a bend in the Tiber River, and to the south by the furrow of its tributary stream Rio Paranza. Because of its location at the crossroads of the roads that run up the Tiber valley, Orte was considered an important commercial stop.
Day 2:    Walk from Orte to Agriturismo BioBagnolese (Vasanello), 10km
The day begins with a unique activity: visit the underground city of Orte.

The tuff cliff on which Orte is built is excavated by a dense network of tunnels. Orte Sotterranea is a route that bears witness to all the activities that have taken place here over the millennia. The tunnels, for most of their 2,500-year history, have served as the town's water system.

In the approximately 2 kilometers of the itinerary: cisterns, wells, sewage channels, storehouses, cellars, dovecotes and fountains. The tour is available in two variants: short and full. A fascinating and mysterious experience in a place of special interest.

Leaving the historic center of Orte, you will preside at the foot of the town's cliff.

The 11km route leads directly to the Agriturismo BioBagnolese, your overnight lodging

Day 3:    Walk from BioBagnolese - Vasanello - Vignanello/Vallerano, 16km

From the Agriturismo proceed to the village of Vasanello, with its 13th-century Orsini Castle and medieval garden. Vasanello is also famous for its pottery production and evidence of the Falisci.

Continue the journey and reach Vignanello, a quaint village 369 meters above sea level. Forests, streams, fields, cottages and villages envelop Vignanello giving it an evocative appearance. Famous is the Ruspoli Castle with its delightful gardens.

At the end of the walk a wine tasting in a Vignanello winery awaits you!

Day 4:    Walk from Agriturismo BioBagnolese to Corchiano, 12km
Continuing you will find yourself among vineyards and hazelnut groves, go up the gorge and cross the ditch. Here there are the remains of the paving stones of the ancient Via Amerina, you are near the WWF Pian Sant'Angelo Natural Monument (which can be visited by appointment). You are in the Corchiano area towards the end of the second stage. After Pian Sant'Angelo you will reach an open and well-kept stretch of Via Amerina. The road will lead you to the Church of the Madonna del Soccorso, and after a suggestive path in the Natural Monument of the Forre , among via cave falische, donkeys, waterfalls and archaeological remains, you will reach the suspended village of Corchiano.
Day 5:    Arrivederci Corchiano!
The trip and our services end after breakfast unless you have pre-book an extra in night in Corchiano or other destinations in Italy.
